Listed below are some of the staff members that you will meet at the Leo Robbins Sailing Center. These people all share a passion for sailing and kayaking, and work hard to share that passion with all of their students.

Certifications: U.S. Sailing and American Sailing Association Instructor, 100-ton USCG Masters License with sailing endorsement. In 1996 after retirement from the telecommunication field and seeking adventure of a new and different kind, I became a volunteer sailing instructor at the Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center. I completed the U.S. Sailing Level 1 Instructor course in December of 1996. When Leo Robbins (who started the Sailing Center in 1972) stepped down from his role as sailing instructor in 1997, someone was needed to cover Summer Sailing Camp and the Adult Basic Sailing classes. Seeking adventure I stepped into Leo's sailing shoes. I had so much fun that first summer I have been here ever since. What better place is there than to be helping people have safe fun on the water in a boat? I am an active participant in a variety of community sailing and safe boating programs. |

Sailing Certifications: US Sailing Small Boat Sailing Instructor, ASA Keelboat Sailing Instructor. I have been living in the Ventura area since I was three years old. I graduated from Ventura High School and retired from AT&T in 2005 after 34 years. In 1996, I bought a 26-foot keelboat with a friend; neither of us knew how to sail. Sailing lessons were the appropriate next step, so I learned to sail at the Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center. I began volunteering as an assistant with the Small Boat Sailing Class in 2003. In 2005, I started assisting with the Sailing and Kayaking Summer Camp. Both of these endeavors were so rewarding I couldn't resist continuing my sailing career. I received my Small Boat Sailing Instructor Certification in February 2005 and my ASA Keelboat Sailing Instructor Certification in December 2007. |

Sailing Certifications: ASA Keelboat Instructor 201, ASA Basic Keelboat 101, ASA Basic Coastal Cruising, US Sailing Small Boat Sailing Instructor Level 1, American Red Cross CPR & First Aid. It's Sunday morning in Ventura County, some choose to read the paper, others mow the lawn. You'll find me preparing for my day at Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center. At 1300 hours, I will take students on their first off-shore sailing experience! I started sailing at Leo Robbins Sailing Center in 1998. I found myself drawn to the wind and the Pacific Ocean. Seeing the hundreds of smiles from students returning to the entrance of Ventura Harbor, I find enjoyment in teaching the sport of sailing. Come out and spend a Sunday with the instructors and staff of Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center! |

| I took my first sailing class in 1999 at the Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center, and thoroughly enjoyed it. This great experience led me to take all the other available classes, many of them more than once. A few years later I was given an opportunity to help out with a few classes, and I've continued to do so ever since. Now, I am a US Sailing certified Level 1 Small Boat Sailing Instructor, with several years of sailing and teaching experience. Sailing has provided me with many hours of fun, and I enjoy giving others the tools they need to have as much fun as I do on the water. |

I started sailing back in Michigan in about 1966 on an 11ft Styrofoam sailboat that I mail-ordered. My first sail was in the Detroit River which has about a 4mph current. I launched my sailboat for the first time near the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit and told my mother, if I can’t get back against the current, pick me up in the next town downstream about 8 miles away and so she did. There was a long lapse in my sailing after I moved to California in 1975. I was an avid surfer and bodysurfer for many years until a few aches an pains came along. That’s when I went back to sailing and took some sailing classes at the Leo Robbins Sailing Center. I took all the sailing classes with the exception of Women’s Sailing and began volunteering at the center helping with boat maintenance and assisting the instructor of the Level 1 class in 2007. I really enjoy helping at the center. Since retiring, it has given me a chance to meet new people on a regular basis, help turn them on to the joy of sailing, and be part of an excellent community service program. |
