The Leo Robbins Sailing Center was established in 1972. In the years since, the staff of the Leo Robbins Sailing Center, with the support of the City of Ventura Community Services Department, the Ventura Maritime Foundation, and the California Department of Boating & Waterways, have created and maintained a U.S. Sailing National Award winning facility.
Classes are taught using a variety of boats ranging from 7 to 30 feet by American Sailing Association and/or U.S. Sailing Association certified instructors.
2006: “Leo Robbins Sailing Center, Outstanding Year-Round Program” from the US Sailing Association Community Sailing Council
2007: “Dave Bowen, Outstanding Director of a Year-Round Program” from the US Sailing Association Community Sailing Council
2008: “Al Catland, Excellence in Instruction in a Year-Round Program" from the US Sailing Association Community Sailing Council

The Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center has 7 US Sailing Association and/or American Sailing Association certified sailing instructors as well as several community volunteers.
At least 2 United States Olympic Sailing Athletes began sailing at the Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center.
Several local and international sailboat racers and sailboat cruisers began sailing at the Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center.
